Dec 1 by Lisette

My name is Lissette and I am the Tia of the girls in Independent Living. I am in the center of the photo with Maricruz on the left and Fabiola on the right. I am 38 years old.

I am reflecting back on this trip because we don’t have much time left on this trip – about a week. The truth is that I feel like this trip has been for a long time. Many times I didn’t know what hour it was or what day it was or what date it was. Some days were here and other days were in another place and this seemed difficult but it wasn’t. Each family had sacrificed to make our stay as comfortable as possible. It qualified to me as 5 star service. The families have given us an example of unity and what a family should be and of service and humility and love and sacrifice.

To work at Prince of Peace has been a great blessing to me. Every day is different and a different experience. But to go to the US is something very special. I know for certain that this trip will in some way change me life.

God has blessed our lives through each church and person in a personal way. I don’t have the words to express my gratitude and my joy to God. It has been a time of surprises and incredible moments and has been super special.

To know the US has been beautiful but it is also good to know that we will return to Guatemala in a few days. Good bye and God bless you.

My name is Myra and I will write about Thanksgiving Day of our trip in the U.S.

We were together in the house of the sister of Mrs. Lana whose name is Kerry and Gary Cox. They live in Springfield, Missouri.

It was also a very good day because the sons of Miss Kay and Dr. Jim were with us and they were a lot of fun. It was also a very special day for Don Pablo because it was his birthday and we celebrated it also.

We ate turkey and ham and much more and I enjoyed it very much because all of my family shared the day and the food together. The thing that I especially liked was that David, Benjamin, and Mark Hines shared the day with us and we had fun together and they are like my brothers because I realized that they were worried about and took care of each of us. This day was so special for me because I felt so, so happy to be there and share with all of my family.

This day of Thanksgiving here in the U.S. is very important because the whole family is together and share food together. The family of Miss Lana was there. This taught me something very important – that it is very important to share with family good and bad times and it makes us better people.

Nov 21 & 22, by Judith

Hello, my name is Judith, in the picture above I am on the left with Miss Kay and MariCruz.I am 18 years old and have lived at Prince of Peace for about a year.

Saturday, Nov. 21 in the morning we had a conference in Richmond, KY and it was very interesting since we talked about how to be friends and girlfriends and boyfriends. Afterwards, we ate lunch and then we went to the business location of Mike Eckler to say goodbye before traveling to Morehead, KY We arrived at about 6:30 p.m. at the church and we had dinner with the people who were waiting for us to arrive. After eating, we went to a basketball game at Morehead State and later we had an outside fire and I talked to some people there and had a good time.

Sunday, Nov. 22 we awakened early to be at the church and we had a good service. We had a good lunch and afterward, we saw a movie. We waited until 5 p.m. to visit a university with people from the church. A man from the university welcomed us and led us to the 3rd floor to visit a class where people were practicing the somba dance. My friends and I began to dance also and it was a lot of fun. Then we returned to the church for another service. We went to bed so that we could get up early the next mornig.

Nov 17th by Joselin

Hello. My name is Joselin and I am 16 years old.
I am very excited because today rode a horse and we got to see the farm of the parents of Alicia Sanders, wife of Mathew Sanders.
We arrived at the house of Bill and Linda Hill, Alicia’s parents and Mr. Paul immediately asked Mr. Bill if we might ride horses. Mr. Paul and Mr. Bill left to get the horses and when they returned with them, we were very excited. Mr. Paul and Mr. Bill helped us up into the saddle and we began taking turns riding the horses while the men led them.
Later, we rode around the farm on top of a trailer with wheels and some hay on it. It made me very contented to be on the farm.
Later, we went to the farm next door to see really small goats. These were very beautiful and sweet animals and I was very contented holding them.
Later, my companions and I rode something like a small car with wheels (4 wheelers) and all of this was like a dream from which I did not want to awaken.
After much laughing, playing games and fun, we had a large outdoor fire and ate hotdogs and marshmallows and it was all very good. I enjoyed it a lot.
Later, we sang and danced the gallina all together and sang a song for the Lord.
It was all very special and something that I would never be able to imagine to do. It is a great opportunity that God has given me and has permitted me to realize.
I will never forget this day and how we laughed and shared together. It was fantastic!
Thanks you Lord for permitting me this gift.

Nov 16th by MariCruz

My name is Maricruz and I am 18 years old. I have just graduated from High School and when I return to Guatemala I plan to work to earn money toward attending the university. I want to be a lawyer.

I am writing about what we did on Nov. 16 on our trip.

This day was planned to visit the Creation Museum. We were waiting for our tickets to go into the museum and Miss Lana told us that we could have our photos taken. The photos were for our group to remember our trip. Some had their pictures taken in front of dinosaurs and others in front of various designs and landscapes. Each person was able to buy their own photos at the cost of $5.

Later we looked at all of the exhibits. One of the things that I liked most was that all of the videos were about how God created the universe. And if it weren’t for Him, nothing of ours would be made.

Then we had lunch in the museum and some people had sandwiches and others had pizza. Everything was fun.

The dinosaurs are creatures that I have wondered about. I have asked “why?” Now here I was able to realize the wisdom of God because if these animals existed now I think that we ourselves would not exist. God knows how to do things.

I am very grateful to each person who has been a part of making this visit to the museum possible. First I give thanks to God for this great trip He has given us and to all of the people who didn’t know us but have opened the doors of their homes to offer us hospitality. God bless you.

Nov 14th by Esperanza

My name is Esperanza Itzep and I am 20 years old and on the 21st of December I will complete 21 years. On the 23rd of October I graduated from High School having studied to become a Bilingual Secretary.

I want to study Business Administration in the United States.

During this trip we have had the opportunity to go to many pretty places. I will tell about Nov. 14 when we went on a picnic that was called tailgating before the Eastern Kentucky football game. The game began at 1 p.m. and it was a beautiful day – not too cold and not raining. We enjoyed the game very much. We were given T-shirts that advertised EKU to wear. The truth is that I never understood this game. Darrell Brock and Mike Eckler tried to explain it to me but I couldn’t get all of it.

This was a great experience because never in my life have I been to a game such as this.

I give thanks to God for giving me this opportunity to know many people so wonderful to my life. I will never forget this moment so great.

Thanks to everyone who made this trip possible. In truth, I don’t have words to describe this. I am only able to say that many people here have much love for us.

Thank you for reading this – you are very special to my life. I love you.

Nov 13 by Ana

Hello! My name is Ana and I am 16 years old. I was born in El Salvador and came to Guatemala to live when I was 8 years old and came to Prince of Peace at 10 years of age.

The people who help us are North Americans and they are very good people who have given us the opportunity to be here.

I am supposed to tell you about my day on Nov. 13 and I am a bit late in telling it to you.

In the morning, we went bowling and this was the first time for me to do this game. In Spanish we call it boliche. This first time to bowl wasn’t a good time for me because my fingernail got caught in the ball while it was in the air and it was very painful. But the rest of the time was very fun.

Later in the day we went to visit the Horse Park in Lexington, KY and we saw some horses there. We were able to pet them but I didn’t like this because they didn’t smell good. My friend really liked to pet them though.

The best part of the day was that all of my family was together and we had a lot of fun.

The Horse Park mentioned by Ana is where the Equestrian Olympics will be held in 2010 and we were able to see much preparation being done for these events. Kay Hines

November 15th by Reina Elizabeth

November 15 2009

Hello, my name is Reina Elizabeth (I am on the left in the photo, Lisdenia on the right) and I am 18 years old and have lived at Prince of Peace for 6 years. This year I finished high school and I am very thankful to the Lord for all of the blessings He has given me especially the dream to come to the United States. To come here is a dream that has now become a reality in my life.

Today is Sunday and I thank God that He is able to give me His grace to see the light and that I had a table of food waiting for me when I awoke this morning. After breakfast, we went to the church of Pastor Sam and Beverly Glenn to receive a wonderful service. My sisters and I sang several songs and I was grateful to the Lord for bringing so many people and that we could have such a special time together.

Later, we went to lunch at a restaurant where the food was very good. Afterward, we returned to the church for a reception where we were able to see other people who have known us in the past or have visited Prince of Peace and who live in this area of Kentucky.

Afterward we returned to the houses of the people with whom we were staying and Lisdenia and I went to a different restaurant. It was a great day.

I was asked to write about the thing that has most surprised me about America and I would say that it is the attitude of the people here. Seeing these people and how much they love us has helped me to know for sure that God exists and that He is able to use people to work through to help us. If He can do this then I can have more and more faith that he can work in my life as He wants. Learning this has made me very happy. Also, if these people help me, then I am able to help other people that need help too. This touched me heart very much because I never thought this before. This question surprised me a lot.

In reality it is God working in the people and the people working with us and us learning to help other people. That is what I am learning.

To all that read this, I want to say with all of my heart “thank you very much”. I love all of ou.

Nov 14th by Kay Hines

Nov. 14

Overheard by Kay Hines---

Some of the girls and I were sitting inside a vehicle as the lady who was getting ready to transport us was shutting the hatchback to her SUV and said – “Watch your hands!”
Esperanza who knows quite a bit of English spoke right up saying – “ Did you hear what she said? She said for you to watch your hands – that means that you are supposed to look and look at your hands but that is not what they mean when they say that. What they mean is that you are supposed to be careful of where your hands are at that moment. You don’t have to sit and look at your hands but that is what they are saying.”

As told by Mike Eckler of Richmond, KY ----

Mike was trying to teach the girls some good old KY redneck terms of speech. He was speaking to Carol one day and was explaining that after speaking to a friend he often says, “Appreciate you buddy!” Upon hearing this, Carol stepped back and was no longer smiling and Mike asked what the problem was. After much discussion it was discovered that Carol had thought he said, “Appreciate your body!” Carol had responded appropriately.

Mike has also tried to explain the term – “Get ‘er done”. Good luck, Mike. Although the girls are hard workers, that one might be difficult to explain.

How tired are we?????----

A few days ago Paul Sanders, the Director at Prince of Peace, was to meet several men for breakfast early one morning. He was eating breakfast at Cracker Barrell when his wife, Lana called. She had gotten up to start her day and put on her glasses only to realize immediately that they were Paul’s glasses and sat lopsidedly on her face. Paul had her nicely appointed glasses on but hadn’t realized it yet. Thankfully their prescriptions are similar and no harm was done except that Lana was getting a headache before Paul returned with her glasses.

What has been your biggest surprise here in America?-----

Several girls were asked this question and all replied with the same answer.
“The most surprising thing here is the way all of the people who do not know us open their homes to us and are so very kind and generous to us. This wouldn’t happen in Guatemala.”

Another surprise-----

Last evening we had a cookout at Chris and Gracie Hager’s home. Everyone trekked out to the barn in the back of the property and a bonfire was built and hot dogs and smore’s were enjoyed by everyone. Later in the evening, one of the girls had to go the restroom and I explained to her and the Tia Liset how to walk back up to the house and into the back door. Later they told me this story. Not realizing that Chris had winterized the backyard pool which includes covering it with a canvas type material, they had began to walk over it and soon realized their mistake. Now we know that at least one of them can walk on water!

Reina Elizabeth told me this story----

I was going home with a family who had some teenaged children. These children were tired and decided to rest their heads on the way to their house. The older son raised the neck rest for himself and his girlfriend and kindly did so for me also. I was so embarrassed when I tried to lean back only to find that my head didn’t reach the back of the seat much less up to where the head rest was. Guatemalans are so short! I didn’t like it. They were comfortable and my head couldn’t reach the head rest!

November 10 by Karina

Karina Nov. 10

Today we got up early to visit Whitehall Elementary school and B. Caudill Middle school in Richmond, Kentucky.

At the elementary school, they showed us several classes and spoke about an advanced system they are using that is helping students learn more effectively.

Later we went to B. Caudill Middle school and I liked the way they were giving classes there. I am an elementary school teacher and I would like to work in a place such as this in Guatemala because this method of learning is much better. I also like that they focused much on sports and art.

Later in the afternoon we heard a testimony that really impacted my life. We learned that God is working in a way that we often do not know but with much love and concern in our lives individually. We must be careful to try to know what His plan is for our lives and take care not to just do what we always want for us. We must wait and see what He has for us, especially concerning dating.

As it says in the Bible – “…Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus”.

Day 11 by Lissette

Our trip Day 11 written by Lissette ( about 40 yr. of age and housemother to the girls in Independent Living at Prince of Peace Home for Girls)

My name is Lissette and I have much gratitude to God in my heart for giving me the opportunity to accompany these girls on this trip to the United States of America. It is a great blessing in my life.

I am thankful first because to go up in an airplane was the first time for me. Second, to be able to visit Disney World and go on rides with the girls was something very special too and for a moment I felt just like one of them and young again.

Also, to see the Via Dolorosa in the depiction at the Holy Land Experience and to see Christ beaten and mocked was a very strong experience for me. This impacted my life and I shall never forget it.

It has been a very difficult for me because there is very little of English that I understand but I haven’t needed to understand the language to be able to see how good the people here have been to all of us. They have opened the doors of their homes to us and have prepared such good food for us and there have always been desserts at each meal. Also some of the people have driven long distances to see us and share together with us.

America is a very beautiful country with many beautiful things to see. And now I understand much more the great sacrifices that people such as Paul and Lana Sanders and Dr. Jim and Kay Hines have made for us. They have obeyed God and gone to a different country and learned a different language and separated themselves from their loved ones to serve Him. I say “thank you” for your obedience to be with us.

The girls and I have taken many photos that will be good reminders of this trip but in my heart I will always keep all that a camera cannot capture of this trip.

God bless each and every one of you who in one form or another have helped us make this trip a reality.

God willing, on December 3 at the end of this trip with the girls, I will travel to Los Angeles, California to visit my older brother whom I have not seen for 13 years.

God bless you all.

Day 7 On the road again by Kay Hines

Today we are traveling all day from the Orlando, FL area through Georgia and into Tennessee. We left Orlando at 7:30 a.m. and hope to arrive at Maryville, Tennessee by 10:00 p.m. tonight.

Many of the girls are sleeping as we travel and because I hate to awaken them, I will write some of my impressions of the trip.

The girls are settling in a bit now and getting more used to the size of the US. They are awed by how wide the streets are and by how far you can travel on them. Remember that Guatemala is about the size of Tennessee and that will help you know how they feel. I keep showing the maps of the US and of the states in which we are traveling and trying to explain size to them by telling them how long it would take to travel between 2 places by car. I’m not sure how much that means to them.

We ate lunch at Kentucy Fried Chicken. In Guatemala "Pollo Compero" is the large chicken chain. The girls all thought that Pollo Compero was better and I agree.

The girls comment on the orderliness here and are impressed by it.

In Guatemala the mass transit is buses. The girls have asked several times, “Where are all of the buses”? Another much asked question is – “Where are all of the people? Why do we not see them walking along the roads”?

The girls are amazed by the standard of living here and the homes in which we have stayed. They like the gardens in front of the houses as do I. When I am in Guatemala I really miss seeing grass. The cities there have streets, sidewalks, and then walls for the view of the passerby. Any plaza or grass or fountain is located inside the walls and not able to be seen from the streets.

Several of the girls have had difficulty knowing how to turn on different types of faucets and shower heads or how to work a stopper in the tub. They think it is funny to have so many different, confusing types.

But as is universal in any language and culture, babies and children have drawn the girls to them wherever they have been encountered.

One of the girls, who shall remain nameless, and who knows very little English was teasing with Dr. Jim one day in the van. She remarked loudly from the back, “Dr. Jim, you suck” and then laughed and laughed as did Dr. Jim. She was quite apologetic after an explanation of the significance of this – something that no doubt she had heard some other young person say. I tried also to explain that this is often said about situations rather than people. Well, we all live and learn. She is learning lots of English though!

The girls are all learning a lot of English no matter what their level of knowledge of it is. They are all being challenged there.
All 19 of us will be a one house tonight. Three bathrooms but only one hot water heater. Should be interesting.

Day 5 Shopping by Cathy

Hello. My name is Cathy and I am 17 years old. I am going to tell you about my experiences on this trip.

I was staying in the home of one of my sponsors, Judy and Daniel Stewart. They decided to take me and 4 of my sisters to have some new experiences on this day.

We began by shopping for clothes and I bought shoes and a blouse and some pants and a hair iron. I have wanted a hair iron for a long time and now I have one! I have already used it and I love it!

The people at each shop were very nice and I especially liked it when they could speak to me in Spanish.

After eating lunch, we went to the home of Alex and Gracia Navarro to watch the movie “Encantada” or “Enchanted” (in English). I loved this movie and especially the place where we watched it because this family had sort of a theatre in their home. The chairs were very comfortable would fold open almost like a bed.

After the movie, we ate pizza. This was a very nice family and it was very special that they could speak Spanish with us.

A little bit later we went to a reception at Hope Community Church where we visited with different people who were interested in Prince of Peace and where all 13 of the Prince of Peace girls sang 3 songs together. I was very impressed with the love that these people showed us.

After the reception, we went home with Diane and Ed Topaleski where we visited a bit before retiring for the evening. We were going to travel the next day for 10 hours and needed to leave very early.

The US is very clean and big and I never imagined that I would be here. For me this is a dream come true!

Day 4 Fabiola

My name is Fabiola and I live in Guatemala City and am 19 years old. I am studying to be a Physical Education teacher.

Disney World is an incredibly big place. The thing that I liked the best were the presentations and the dances.

I was first impressed with the orderly way that the people parked their vehicles.

I thought I was dreaming. I know that each one of us - grandparents, children and adults - all have dreams. This was one of my dreams come true.

Many of the games were fun. One of my favorite moments was to throw coins into one of the lakes and make a wish. My wish was to be able to study and graduate from high school and then attend a university in the United States. This is both a dream and a desire.

I am grateful to all of the people who made this trip possible.

I had a lot of fun and I believe that without these people, my dream to be at Disney World and visit the US would not be possible. Thank you very much.

A specific experience that was fun was the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. It was very fast and fun and was a roller coaster ride.

I am taking pictures of many things. This is an incredible opportunity.

Day 4 Walt Disney World by Odilia

My name is Odilia and my friends call me Ody. I am 18 years old and I have lived at Prince of Peace Home for Girls for 4 years because my family does not have sufficient resources to pay for me to attend school.

The trip to the US has been a very special blessing and I am very thankful to God for this opportunity. The experience to go up in an airplane was incredible and the tour yesterday of Disney World with my sisters was a beautiful dream come true. It was a wonderful time. The games at Disney were fantastic. I was a little afraid to do some of the rides, but it was all wonderful.

One experience that I had at Disney World was on the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. I did not want to do any rides at Disney World because I don't like things that go around and around. But, I didn't realize that we were entering this ride. Instead I thought it was a regular train. By the time I realized that it was a roller coaster ride, it was too late to get off. I went in a car with Miss Kay and I was very afraid so I hugged her tightly and this gave me confidence and I was brave enough to finish the ride. It was very scary. After the ride, I decided that I liked it and would do it again next time. I am glad Miss Kay stayed with me and helped me.

Today we visited the Holy Land Exhibit that had a great impact on my life. The gardens there were beautiful and the people were very friendly. We saw many different presentations about the life of Christ and I enjoyed them very much. I give thanks to God for this opportunity and for the people who helped make it possible especially Paul and Lana Sanders and Dr. Jim and Kay Hines.

Day 2 November 1, 2009 by Gladys Sanchez

Hello! My name is Gladys Sanchez and I am 18 years old and I live in San Cristobal, Guatemala in a Home for Girls named Prince of Peace. I am in high school studying to be an accountant.

Right now I am visiting the United States with 12 of my sisters from P of P and we are traveling together visiting different states where churches have sponsored some of our girls.

This trip is a very good experience that I will never forget. At first, I was nervous because I have never traveled in an airplane but when I was in the airplane seeing the cities and the lakes below, it was a sight more beautiful than I ever could have imagined.

Our journey here has been unforgettable and the people very nice and sociable and the churches very hospitable. My friend Myra is very nice and I am sharing a room with her at night. Each girl on the trip who speaks a little English is partnered with a girl who doesn’t speak much English in the hope that everyone can learn more.

I give thanks to God for giving me this opportunity to take this trip. He is faithful and has guarded me from much danger to get me to this place in my life. He knows my feelings and the desires of my heart and has completed them in accordance with His will.

I know at Cooper City Church of God in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Pastor Bob and his wife Bonnie are very nice people. We were in 2 services there and I really liked the praise and worship.

Mike and Sherri Eckler from Richmond, KY have joined us here in Ft. Lauderdale to bring a 15 passenger van for us to use on this trip. Mike owns a car lot and found this van for us and many people are helping P of P pay for it. What a blessing!!!

In Cooper City, FL, Myra and I stayed in the home of Kim and Jim Rosario who treated us kindly and were very friendly. Their house was very large and pretty.

We had a large lunch in the church and then we traveled to another church in Lake Placid, FL for another service in the evening. We sang 2 songs there and had a wonderful meal together.

I am very happy because I never imagined a trip like this in my life. I give thanks to God and everyone who has helped to make this trip of a lifetime possible. I will always remember this time in my life and be very thankful.

Day 1 in Miami, Florida

31 October, 2009

Jim and I are traveling through several states but will be visiting churches and people who sponsor girls at Prince of Peace Home for Girls in Guatemala in Florida, Kentucky, Missouri, Arkansas, and Texas. Yesterday was the first day of the trip and we all arrived safely in Miami tired but happy. Some of the girls had tears in their eyes when we saw them. Altogether there are 13 girls ages 16-22 and a Tia in charge of the girls in the Home in Guatemala and a young teacher who grew up at the Home. Including 4 adults, there are 19 people traveling together. Most of these girls have never even traveled in their own country much less visited another one. This will be the experience of a lifetime for them and we will get to thank churches and individuals who have brought teams to Guate and who have sponsored girls in the Home.

Today will be written by Myra who is a very sweet, petite 18 year old. Here are her impressions -

It was my first day in Miami and am very impressed by all of the places that I saw. But, the thing that I like are the lakes that are in many places near Miami. I was also very impressed by the people here who are very nice although they don't know a person very well. The people of Cooper City are very special for me because without knowing us they have provided a home and a place for us to sleep. That is nice!

Today is the last day of October and it was so fun to celebrate with some of the children from Cooper City Church of God. We helped with a Fall Festival there and one person asked me where I am from and I told him that I am from Guatemala and that this is my first time to come to the United States and that I am impressed with many differences in here and Guatemala. For example, in Guatemala, the streets are very small and here they all seem very large. In Guatemala there are many mountains but here there are many lakes and the lakes look very pretty because they are located near to the houses. In Guatemala, the lakes can't be seen from the houses. We had a good conversation some in spanish and some in english.

Today we visited the beach and I liked it a lot because it was very clean and the sand was white. In my country, the ocean isn't very clean and the sand is black. I had a lot of fun today at the beach playing with my friends. There are 12 other girls here visiting from Prince of Peace Home for Girls in Guatemala. We had fun seeing a jelly fish which we refer to as a medusa in spanish. I am hearing a lot of English and although I understand much of it, I am hesitant to speak it. It is hard to speak in English.

Mike Eckler and his wife Sherry are with us here in Miami because he helped Prince of Peace purchase a van for this trip in the states. He drove the van to us here from Kentucky. He and Sherry are very special to me.

Another thing that I like here is that there are many people from Jamaica and they are very friendly.

Prince of Peace Girls are U.S.-bound!

We have nine visas in hand and nine happy girls! We have six more to go and are asking that you pray that these visas will be forthcoming! We will depart Guatemala on October 30. Check the Prince of Peace site for our complete itinerary.

Our plans include a trip to the beach in Florida, Disney World, the Kentucky Horse Park, the Creation Museum, visits to high schools and colleges, a Thanksgiving Feast and much more! We'll visit Florida, Kentucky, Missouri, Arkansas and Texas on our trip.

We're looking forward to seeing everyone, renewing old acquaintances and making new ones. The girls are so excited about this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that they can't sleep! The girls are asking to see snow so we will see if the Lord answers their prayers.

Hello and Welcome

Welcome to our new blog! We decided to jump on the social media bandwagon and thought this would be a great way to share our Guatemalan adventures.

We have lived in Guatemala since 2004 and work in two ministries. The first is Prince of Peace Home for Girls. This is a home for girls who come from an abusive home life. Very few are orphans. At Prince of Peace, they are able to live in a safe environment and experience the love of God. Kay teaches the older girls cooking classes. We both work in Clinica Esperanza, the medical clinic that ministers to the girls in the home and to a group of very poor Mayans who live around the home.

Jim also works at the Hands of Hope Medical Clinic located in a remote area that ministers to Mayans and others of Spanish decent. These people are extremely poor and have no source of medical care. Through the practical means of medical care, the love of Christ is demonstrated to the people and many have come to salvation in Christ.

Our first to Guatemala was a short-term mission trip in 1984. God planted a seed in our hearts for for Guatemala and so in 2004 we made the decision to move there. Kay had been a home economics teacher and homemaker. Jim had practiced internal medicine in Corpus Christi, Texas, for 27 years. Our three grown sons were out of the house and no longer requiring Kay's full-time attention. Jim closed his medical practice and we moved to Antigua to begin language school.

We hope you enjoy reading about our adventures. We'll share stories about the girls and people in the clinics. We'd love your feedback, so please add your comments!

If you'd like to learn more about our ministries, please visit the Prince of Peace website, the Commission to Every Nation website and our Guatemala Medical Missions website. You can also email us at guatemalamedicalmissions [at] gmail [dot] com.
